Charlie Wiedemer
Charlie started drumming in the eighth grade. For four years, Charlie performed in the award-winning Oakcrest High School marching and concert band from Mays Landing, and was directed by noted percussionist David Tobias. With performances across the state, region, Canada, and Europe, Charlie advanced to become leader of the percussion section, was soloist for Concerto for Drumset, and won the Mainland Music Award. Also during high school, Charlie performed extensively with the Weekstown Midnight Alarmers,
playing drumset on big band standards, show tunes, polkas, waltzes, and marches. Throughout his college years in North Jersey, Charlie performed with numerous rock bands, including I.S.S.S.B. and Steel Trees, and while living in Maryland, he performed with Annapolis’s Crabtowne Big Band. For the past several years, Charlie has been performing covers and originals with local pop, rock, and fusion bands, and he has opened for national acts. Charlie’s playing can be heard on the Darwin Beagle CDs Shmevolution, Parable, and Live at the Stone Pony, as well as numerous demos and live recordings. Charlie studies privately with Neil Garthly, and he has taken lessons with Dom Famularo, Joe Bergamini, Zoro, Jeff Salem, and Gene Lake. Charlie is a Vic Firth Private Drum Teacher and has been a percussionist with the Ocean County College Concert Band. Currently, in addition to teaching at the Academy of Drums & Guitar, Charlie is performing with classic rock bands Class Trip and the Liberty Band, and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
