A high-profile drummer in the
New York/New Jersey area, Joe Bergamini has developed a reputation as
one of the foremost exponents of progressive rock and fusion drumming
in the Northeast USA. A student of such greats as David Garibaldi, Kenny
Aronoff, Al Miller, John Riley and Dom Famularo, Joe thrives on playing
with energy and expertise in bands including Power Windows: The Ultimate
Tribute to Rush; and 4Front, his instrumental fusion group. From progressive
double bass drumming with multi-tom fills and odd-time, to pumped-up,
high-energy jazz-rock explorations and rock/pop performances he plays
them all with precision and passion. Joe has been active on the New York
scene since he began playing professionally at age 19. From 1991 to 1995
he recorded three albums and performed with Eternal Vision, a hard rock
act on Trinity Records. He has also performed styles ranging from pop
to blues in New York with Friday's Child, Coehlo-Volpone, Jimmy Wilgus,
Big Radio, and Rhett Tyler. A longtime Rush fan, Joe accepted the gig
with Power Windows, the East Coast's top Rush tribute band, in 1993 and
continues to play regularly with them. Joe has also released two critically
acclaimed albums on his own label, Spec Records: his 1996 debut Arrival,
and the 1998 release from his band 4Front, Gravity (both featuring guitarist
Zak Rizvi and bassist Frank LaPlaca). In 1999-2000, Joe recorded and performed
with Bumblefoot, led by internationally known guitarist and former Shrapnel
recording artist Ron Thal, and appears on their international BMG release
Uncool. Active in music education for over 10 years, Joe teaches drum
set technique and performance and is a regular performer of educational
clinics in New Jersey public schools and music stores. The Joe Bergamini
Drum School currently teaches over 100 students and employs three teachers.
Also an author, Joe co-wrote It's Your Move (voted one of the top 3 educational
books in the 2000 Modern Drummer Readers Poll) with Dom Famularo, and
has written articles for various music periodicals including Modern Drummer,
Stick It, Percussive Notes, and Music Educator's Journal. He is a clinician
and endorser for Tama, Sabian, Vic Firth, Latin Percussion, and HQ Percussion;
and has been featured in Modern Drummer, Gig, Batteur, and other magazines.
Currently working on a new release from his band, 4Front, while collaborating
on several drum books with Dom Famularo, Joe Bergamini is one of the most
vital young drummers emerging from today's East Coast scene. A professional
with skill, determination and vision, he is a player who like friend and
mentor Dom Famularo is determined to share his knowledge and enthusiasm.
He wants to educate and inspire other drummers. "Performing is great,"
says Joe. "But there's something magical about inspiring young players.
I hope music opens up many new worlds for younger players. It sure has
for me!" Joe's Website: http://www.joebergamini.com
